Abstract
1. 7cases of middle lobe syndrome were studied on its pathology, symptoms,
diagnosis, laborolory tests and therapy by the clinical findings and pathogical specimens.
2. The diagnosis was established by bronchography and x-ray findings in lordotic
position and lateral projection.
Plain rentgenograms of the chest may often show only extremly sububtle change
which are often not recognized except on films taken in the lateral projection.
3. Of 7 cases of middle lobe syndrome, 3 cases were identified as pulmonary
tuberculosis post-operatively, being different from previous diagnosis.
Differential diagnosis according to the underlying pathology of these syndromes was
necessary for the future treatment.
4. As these cases cannot be cured only by chemotherapy, early diagnosis and
treatment are required.
Those who do not respond to chemotherapy for a month after the onset of disease,
lung resection should be seriously considered.
